City Exploring

A day out in York with Leeds Brewery

Take a break from all that shopping and pop into one of our Leeds Brewery pubs for a well deserved pint and a home cooked pub meal. We have two pubs in York; the newly opened Eagle and Child  located just a stone’s throw away from the York Minster on High Petergate and the Duke of York  in the middle of the bustling King’s Square.

Whether you spend your time perusing the shops along Parliament street, walking along the city walls or wandering through the museum gardens,  in such a beautiful historic city you’ll never be short of things to see and places to go. You can stroll down the cobbled streets, take in the atmosphere and discover small, independent shops while admiring the historic architecture.

If you head towards the Shambles just around the corner from the Duke of York, you’ll be greeted with a street of old fashioned sweets and treats, cosy tearooms, local businesses and inviting gift shops.

'There are vintage signs hanging above all of the doors and the wooden beamed buildings are part of the beautiful architecture; one of the reasons why the Shambles is such a popular attraction in the city.'

York is especially charming at this festive time of year as the Christmas market fills Parliament Street with stalls selling gifts, decorations, cheeses, chutneys, mulled wine, roasted chestnuts and plenty more. It’s the perfect place to buy those last minute Christmas gifts and if nothing takes your fancy, the market is surrounded by all of your well known high street shops.

After a long day exploring, you will need to give your tired feet a rest and we recommend making a pitstop at a Leeds Brewery pub for a pint of one of our Christmas special brews or a glass of mulled wine. We have a variety of cask and keg ales available on the bar, a wine list that we are proud to serve and of course a selection of soft drinks, and if you’re feeling peckish after all of the sightseeing we offer a range of classic pub dishes made using locally sourced ingredients. We have a sandwich menu available served from 12-5pm; ideal if you want a quick bite at lunchtime. Our main menu is served throughout the day with all of your pub favourites including Yorkshire Dales sausage and mash with buttered greens, a rosemary and red wine gravy or Leeds Best battered haddock with pea purée, homemade tartar sauce and Leeds Brewery chips. Also our Christmas menu is now available where you can indulge in 2 Courses for £24.95 or 3 Courses for £26.95.

York is a great day out spent with friends and family and however you choose to spend your day, you will be very welcomed by our staff in both the Eagle and Child and the Duke of York. Less than half an hours train ride from Leeds, you don’t have far to travel; leave the car at home and enjoy a pint or two! For more information or to book a table, don't hesitate to give us a call or pop into one of our pubs today. LB
