January to-do List

Our favourite things to do in Leeds this January

It’s a new year so we’ve put together a list of things to do here in Leeds this month.

Shopping

It’s time for the January sales and there’s plenty of opportunities in Leeds to grab yourself a bargain. You can head to Trinity Leeds , the city’s newest and largest shopping centre filled with your favourite high street retailers all contained under a giant glass roof. The city centre also has a number of shopping arcades. The Victoria Quarter  is where you will find luxury and designer brands alongside some of the city’s most beautiful architecture, in Queens Arcade  you can find jewellery and clothing boutiques and The Grand Arcade  is one of the oldest shopping arcades in Leeds full of independent retailers. The Kirkgate Market  is definitely worth a visit, open 6 days a week with over 400 stalls inside and 200 outside, it has a lively atmosphere and is great value for money.

The Corn Exchange

As one of Britain's finest Victorian buildings and one of the most iconic architectural buildings in Leeds, the Corn Exchange ➅ is well worth a visit. Filled with independent shops and businesses it’s a great place to explore. Although it is renowned as a shopping centre, we recommend going purely to admire the incredible architecture both inside and out. There are regular events hosted at the Corn Exchange such as a monthly record fair, a vintage fair, dance performances and classes, book launches and gift fairs so keep an eye out for any upcoming events this month.

The next record Record Fair is on Sunday 31st January. For more events visit Leeds Corn Exchange

Leeds Minster

A neighbour to the River Aire and just around the corner from the Lamb and Flag is the historic Leeds Minster . Formerly a Leeds Parish Church and now a large Church of England foundation, the Minster has great architectural significance to the city. It was constructed using ashlar stone with slate roofs and has beautiful stain glass windows that are illuminated from the inside. Whether you attend one of their services or simply go and have a look at the stunning building, you can always pop in and see us at the Lamb and Flag.

There is an Epiphany Carol Service at Leeds Minster on Sunday 17th January at 6.30pm

Live Music

If you want to attend more live music in 2016 then keep an eye out for our live music events regularly hosted at our Leeds Brewery pubs, in particular Crowd of Favours. We like to give local talent a venue to perform to an audience in a calm, relaxed environment while enjoying a pint or two. We invite different bands, singers, ages and genres of music to play for us so we’re sure you’ll find something that will appeal to you. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming music events at our pubs this month.

Ice Skating

It’s that time of year when Leeds’ coolest attraction comes to Millennium Square; Ice Cube . The annual outdoor skating rink is a fun filled day out for all the family, with over 500m2 of real ice and a separate nursery rink for children aged 8 years and under there is accessible skating for everyone as well as a 40m long Snowslide and other winter themed attractions. Get your skates on and head down to Millennium Square this January.

Ice Cube returns to Leeds on Friday 22nd January. For more information visit Ice Cube Leeds

City Varieties Music Hall

Hidden away off one of the busiest streets in the city centre is the City Varieties Music Hall . The popular venue built in 1865, has remained virtually unchanged across three centuries and over the last 20 years has established a reputation for showcasing the best in live music, comedy and their widely popular annual pantomimes. Next door to the historic venue lives one of our Leeds Brewery pubs, The White Swan and with a pre theatre menu on offer it’s the perfect place to enjoy a meal and a pint before seeing a performance.

To see what perfomances are showing this January go to City Varieties Music Hall

These are just a few of our top things to do in the city this month and are bound to make those January blues fade away. If you’re out and about exploring Leeds why not come and visit one of our Leeds Brewery pubs for a pint and a bite to eat. LB
