Artist and Printmaker
Taking inspiration from the likes of Lynd Ward, Frans Masereel and Tom Waits, Alexis Snell is a printmaker who makes linocuts.
This is a process of taking initial sketches and quite literally carving them into blocks of lino and then covering the completed carving in ink and using this to print the image that was created in the lino.
Born and raised in Yorkshire, Alexis began her career with a solid foundation in arts education, culminating in a Fine Art Printmaking degree from the University of Wales, Cardiff. After returning to Yorkshire, being a cook for seven years and dipping in and out of her art, she eventually decided to take her passion full time, moving to London to try and make a living from printmaking.
After a few years in the capital Alexis secured an agent and illustration work began to trickle in.
Having worked on a wide variety of projects from the cover and illustrations for Head of the Saint, a book by Brazilian author Soccorro Acoili, to illustrating the menu for The Angel Hotel in Abergavenny - Today, Alexis is to be featured in the V&A in the Autumn when the Europe gallery opens to the public.
